💡 Did You Know?
✅ Roopkund Lake, famously called the "Skeleton Lake," lies ahead on the same trail and holds hundreds of ancient human remains — a centuries-old mystery still unsolved. It's part of the sacred Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra, an ancient pilgrimage held once every 12–14 years.
✅ Bedni Kund, the sacred pond in the meadows, is deeply revered by locals. It’s believed that Goddess Nanda Devi herself rests here during the great Raj Jat Yatra. Offerings and rituals are still performed here by shepherds and villagers.
✅ Ali & Bedni Bugyal together form one of the largest high-altitude meadows in Asia, but it’s not just their size that stuns — it’s how they suddenly emerge from thick forests like a hidden world, opening up panoramic views of Mt. Trishul and Nanda Ghunti that seem straight out of a dream.
✅ Wan, the trek’s end-point, is one of the highest motorable villages in the region. It’s known for its timeless wooden houses, traditional life, and proximity to the sacred Latu Devta Temple, which remains closed most of the year — its deity is believed to be so powerful that even priests enter blindfolded during rituals.
✅ The name Lohajung comes from “Lohasur Jung” — meaning “the battle with the demon Lohasur.” Legend says Goddess Parvati defeated the demon at this very spot. Today, it's the base camp for many legendary treks including Ali Bedni Bugyal and Roopkund.
